Challenge
Morning‘s projects involve many teams and frequent design changes, so everyone needs access to accurate, up-to-date plans.
With AutoCAD, drawings circulate between designers, project managers, and other stakeholders, making coordination harder.
Solution
Morning’s Design & Build team began testing Rayon as an alternative to AutoCAD. Designers and project managers now work from one shared project, with shared libraries, dynamic tables, and saved versions.
“Rayon allows us to work more dynamically as a team and produce beautiful drawings.” Théo, Project Manager at Morning.
What makes a great workplace? For Morning, the answer goes far beyond desks, meeting rooms, and office layouts. It is about creating environments where people feel comfortable, connected, and inspired, while giving businesses the flexibility to grow and evolve.
Founded in Paris in 2014, Morning creates and operates workspaces, from flexible offices and coworking environments to bespoke workplace design and fit-out. Its integrated Design & Build team supports companies from space planning and interior concepts to construction and final delivery. We sat down with Théo, a Project Manager on that team, to see how designers and project managers work together, and why the team is moving from AutoCAD to Rayon.
Designing workplaces around the people who use them
The process begins with a team responsible for identifying new buildings and project opportunities. Once a project is established, it moves to the interior design team, which develops the architectural concept.
No two companies work in exactly the same way, so Morning develops an individual concept for each space rather than applying the same formula to every building. Interior designers develop the architectural concept, including space planning, furniture, finishes, and atmosphere, while project managers make sure the solutions remain aligned with budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.
Théo’s role is to coordinate the transition from design to construction, making sure the designers’ concepts can be delivered on site. This close relationship between design and execution helps transform creative ideas into functional, carefully considered workplaces.
From AutoCAD to a more collaborative design process
One of the main motivations behind the move was the ability for several people to work on the same plan. Rayon lets Morning’s team members access shared drawings and collaborate within the same project environment, reducing the friction of exchanging files and coordinating updates.
It has also proved accessible. While experienced AutoCAD users sometimes need time to adapt, colleagues with less CAD experience have found Rayon particularly approachable, bringing the design and project management teams closer together.
One workflow, from initial layouts to construction
Morning’s projects range from offices of a few hundred square meters to workplaces of 5,000 to 6,000 square meters, but the process stays similar. Interior designers focus on zoning, furniture arrangements, floor finishes, and visual identity, while project managers develop the technical drawings, including electrical layouts and the information contractors need. Both teams work from the same project environment.
This keeps technical decisions consistent with the original design concept, which matters when the position of furniture, partitions, circulation routes, and equipment must be coordinated continuously.
By bringing these activities into Rayon, Morning can maintain a clearer relationship between the initial design intent and the technical documentation used during construction. Rather than treating each stage as a separate process, the team can progressively develop the same project as its requirements become more detailed.
Keeping everyone on the same page
Instead of relying on drawings spread across files and versions, team members access the current project directly. This makes it easier to collect feedback, coordinate changes, and make sure everyone works from the same information as construction approaches.
Morning also uses Rayon’s version-saving capabilities to preserve earlier proposals and return to them when clients reconsider their needs, so the team spends less time managing drawing files and more time making decisions.
Together, these capabilities help the team spend less time managing drawing files and more time making the decisions that move projects forward. For a company coordinating design and construction across multiple workplaces, that continuity can make a meaningful difference to the efficiency of daily work.
Turning drawings into reliable project information
Floor plans are not only used to communicate spatial ideas; they also provide the basis for estimating quantities, preparing budgets, and coordinating materials. Rayon’s dynamic walls, zones, styles, and tables let Morning organize project information directly within its drawings.
As layouts evolve, quantities update, reducing the need to re-measure spaces after each change. The resulting tables can be exported and shared with contractors, helping the project management team prepare quotations more efficiently. Drawings become a source of structured information rather than static representations of a space.
For Théo, this is one of the most useful aspects of the platform. Having quantities linked to the design makes the information easier to maintain throughout the project, while helping the team respond to modifications without unnecessarily repeating work. The connection between space planning and project data becomes particularly valuable when dealing with large office layouts, where even relatively small adjustments can affect many elements.
Building a shared library of design elements
Morning develops its own furniture and design elements, and uses Rayon’s libraries to organize them as reusable blocks and products in clear categories. Interior designers create the elements, and project managers can easily find and insert them without the same level of CAD experience, which also keeps drawings cleaner and projects consistent.
For an organization designing multiple workplaces, shared libraries offer benefits beyond convenience. They help maintain consistency between projects, make it easier to reuse existing design work, and allow team members with different responsibilities to work from a common collection of resources.
Making architectural drawings easier to understand
Through styles, colors, and drawing layouts, Morning can create architectural plans that are easier to read and more visually refined than those it previously produced in AutoCAD. For clients, the team currently prefers exporting polished, fixed documents such as PDFs, which ensures a clear, consistent representation of the design regardless of their familiarity with CAD software.
Rayon supports this process by allowing Morning to develop detailed plans and produce presentation-ready documents from the same working environment. The result is a workflow in which drawing quality and technical documentation reinforce one another, rather than requiring separate efforts.
Bringing design and technical teams together
A design must be visually coherent, technically feasible, financially realistic, and practical to build. By making plans and resources accessible to the wider team, Rayon helps Morning bridge these responsibilities: interior designers concentrate on the character of the workspace, project managers on technical layouts, quantities, and contractors, and both contribute to the same evolving project. The team is also exploring bringing more of its creative process, such as visual references, into the platform.
For Théo, the greatest benefit is this combination of accessibility, dynamic information, and teamwork. Rayon allows Morning to work more efficiently without compromising the quality of its designs or the precision required to deliver them.
Designing the workplaces of tomorrow
Designing a successful workplace requires more than an attractive floor plan. By integrating Rayon into its Design & Build workflow, Morning is making the connections between teams easier to manage: shared plans reduce friction, dynamic tables keep project information accurate, and reusable libraries simplify new spaces. At Rayon, we believe that making drawing easier and more collaborative allows designers to concentrate on what matters most: creating better spaces for the people who use them.
